A series of evening orienteering events in lovely local woods and parks
Small events with a big heart!

Claro present a series of evening events in local woods and parks around the Harrogate, Knaresborough and Ripon areas.

We use full SI Air timing and there will be a range of courses for all ages and levels of experience.

There will be a coaching session with one of our club coaches before the event tailored to the terrain you will experience enabling you to put your new found skills into practice straight away. See each individual event for more details.

Registration opens at 1800 with start times from 1800 to 1845. Courses close at 1930.

Tuesday 7 May - Jacob Smith Park, Knaresborough
Tuesday 21 May - Hell Wath, Ripon

Hell-Wath - a disused army camp of old. Plenty of lumps and bumps and things to hide behind . Situated next to the beautiful River Skell (Studley Roger abuts on the far bank), where deer and barn owls have been sighted whilst planning amidst the bluebells and wild garlic. We have 4 courses for you to flex your skills. There is limited venue parking, but plenty of on street parking close by. We have the use of Hell-Wath community centre where many prizes have been awarded. The next could be to YOU, so dress smart for a 17:20 training session , from Quentin, followed by racing from 18:00. We’ve done our best to avoid placing controls in nettle patches but if you’re not trained in the art of weed trampling then you may prefer to wear leg cover!

The football club are kindly letting us use their changing and toilet facilities. The football pitches will be shaded “ Out of Bounds “ and please stay clear of anyone maintaining the pitches.

NB: Courses
Courses may vary between events. Enter the category below that you feel suits you best and we will direct you to the best course for you on the day.

Long Experienced
A longer course with physical and navigational challenges for more experienced orienteers who would like a longer distance.
Short Experienced
A shorter, less physical course, suitable for more experienced orienteers with more navigational challenges.
Long Beginners
A longer, easier course, mainly on paths, but using some other line features like walls or fences. Suitable for older beginners and experienced runners who would like extra distance.
Short Beginners
An easy course, mainly on paths, and suitable for younger beginners.
